1. I found my bestfriend for life.
We have literally done everything together. We lived in a tiny ass dorm room together, we worked at the same place, we shopped for clothes and groceries. We found out what ticks each other and would be complete pain in the asses to each other. We even fought, but were fine that same night. I love her like a sister and could not have found a better friend to do life with. We are basically soulmates and brain twins.
2. Some People are Fake and that is Okay.
Sometimes you are just better off without certain people in your life. Some people listen to your troubles because they genuinely care and want to help, while others listen and just want the "juicy gossip". Do not believe everyone is your friend and be cautious on who you trust. The right person will come soon enough and at the right time, I promise.
3. Sometimes you are not as good as you thought, but it is also OKAY.
Lol, I failed math and cried my eyes out and literally thought it was the end of the world. I thought I was going to have to change my career choice or drop out of college, but I am not. "Giving up on your goal because of one setback is like slashing your other three tires because you got a flat". It just does not make sense to give up because I failed; ONCE. It will not be the last time I fall and it is not the first fall. It is simply a bump in the road on my journey.
4. Health actually matters.
Of course it is cool to indulge in pizza and maybe even alcohol every once in a while because I mean, I am a college student. Oh no, shoot me. Just don't forget to exercise sometimes and eat properly, don't do it for others, but do it for yourself because your body deserves that.
5. Love and listen to others.
I met a lot of amazing people with different backgrounds and I have a wide variety of friends. It is nice because I can hang out with any one friend and nothing will be similar to another friend. I advise this because it is wonderful to have a mixture. You'll always be learning something new.
6. DO NOT forget where you come from.
Mine and my mother's relationship has gotten a lot better now that we have had some space and I actually would enjoy calling home and talking about things. It will make your family's day to hear from you. They love you. Okay?
7. You will get there.
You will get to your goal when you get there. There is no set time, everyone has their own pace. Learn yours and get comfortable for the ride.
8. Do things by yourself sometimes.
Sure, hanging out with groups of your closest friends is a blast, but get to know you because that is super important. Plus, isn't that what you're trying to do. Take a walk in nature and get lost, but do it in a park so just in case, your family can call the park and let them know you may need some assistance.. This happened to me once, it was quite interesting and I was mad at first, but then I knew they were only concerned because they CARE.
9. Have a blast because it is gonna go fast.
Just last year I was at the top of the food chain and a senior in high school and this year I just moved back home from my freshman year of college. It is crazy. It went by so fast and I miss it so much already and it literally has been like two weeks, but I have countless memories to last a lifetime so I think I will manage until next year.
10. No one said it was gonna be easy.
You are not going for that higher education to party, you are going to learn. Maybe I would not have failed math if I was not out partying so much, but what's done is done and I can only learn from it and know to have a better balance next year between social activities, work and school. It is tough, but IT IS WORTH IT.
